See what America's most influential wine critic says about
Chateau Montelena's spring 2008 releases

2004 Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Outstanding. "A broad, flavorful, concentrated style with plenty of black currant, licorice, and spice. Another beauty from probably the most consistent winery for Cabernet Sauvignon over the last three decades." - 94+ Points

2006 Napa Valley Chardonnay
Outstanding. "More honeyed apple notes and hints of freshly squeezed orange juice and lemon zest. The wine is incredibly consistent from year to year." - 91 Points

2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Outstanding. ""A beauty. Savory black currant fruit notes intermixed with some licorice, underbrush, and spice jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, smoothly textured, beautifully elegant wine." - 90 Points

2005 Montelena Estate Zinfandel
Very Good. "A success story. The wine has good fruit, a leaner style, and a more elegant personality." - 87 Points

Montelena in the Movies

Bottle Shock Premiers at Sundance Film Festival

During 2006 we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the 1976 Paris Tasting, at which Chateau Montelena's Chardonnay won top honors. Now an independent film titled Bottle Shock, loosely based on events leading up to that historic day, has made its debut at the famed Sundance Film Festival. Bottle Shock is a fanciful and fictional tale featuring prominent actors: Bill Pullman as Jim Barrett, Chris Pine as Bo Barrett, and Alan Rickman as Steven Spurrier. As a result of the exposure at Sundance, Bottle Shock will open in selected markets on August 8. Meanwhile, for a highly readable account of events as they actually unfolded we recommend The Judgment of Paris by George Taber.

Thirty years on, Bottle Shock is generating great buzz yet again about Chateau Montelena wines. They continue to be in short supply. Be sure your cellar is stocked!
